Commemorative Stamp Issued in honour of Mountaineer Late Babu Chiri Sherpa

Babu Chiri Sherpa, world renowned mountaineer was born in 1965 A.D. at Taksindu Village Development Committee in Solukhumbu District as son of Lhakpa Sherpa and Pasi Sherpa. He started to climb the scaled 9954 meter high Mount Mera in 1988. Likewise, he ascended Mt. Kanchanjanga, Mt. Dhaulagiri, Mt. Cho-Oyu, Mt. Ama Dablam and successfully climbed the Mt. Everest ten times. In 1999 he spent 21 hours on top of the Mt. Everest without using bottle oxygen setting world record. On 21 May 2000, he climbed the Mt. Everest in sixteen hours and fifty-six minutes, the shortest duration covered from the base camp, setting world record at that time and becoming world renowned mountaineer. He was decorated with Suprasiddha Gorakha Dakshin Bahu First class and awarded with many more decorations. He passed away unfortunately in an accident on 29 April, 2001 in crevasse while on his way to scale the highest peak on the earth for the eleventh time.

The portrait of this world renowned mountaineer Babu Chiti Sherpa along with the background picture of Mt. Everest is depicted in the postage stamp, in order to commemorate the importance of this brave and world renowned records. This cover has the autograph of 13 time Everest Summiter Apa Sherpa.
