Nepal Rastra Bank the Currency issuing authority of Nepal has published a very informative book called “Notes and Coins of Nepal.“ This hard covered book is published in 2006 on the occasion of the Golden Jubilee of Nepal Rastra Bank. The book contains two sections for the Bank notes and coins of Nepal. The bank note section of the book gives the detailed information about the printer, quantity printed, size and color of the notes, prefix serial numbers and replacement details of most of the notes issued since 1945 to 2006. Colored specimen illustrations are shown in actual size with printer’s name of all banknotes.

It is a first officially printed book, which has given glossary of all the Nepali vernacular numerals and text details used on banknotes.

It will definitely help ease the collector to specialize on the field of Nepal bank note collection. The coin section is subdivided for commemorative and regular coins. The commemorative coins issued since 1984 to 2005 are illustrated with all detailed specifications. Similarly the regular coins issued since 1982 are shown along with the Gold coin Asarfi. All coin details and specifications are provided by Nepal Rastra Bank, Currency Management Department, Mint Division. Book has art bound paper 140 pages size 8.5” x 24” with hard cover.

Banknotes:: New 500 and 1000 Rupees notes with cornerstone water mark

Numismatics On 14th September 2005, Nepal issued two new notes of 500 and 1000 Rupees denomination with "cornerstone water mark" at the four corners of the note. Minor text changes as shown here with signature #15.

Banknotes:: New Rs.5 note with New Governer Mr. Bijay Nath Bhattarai (signature #16)

Numismatics On 19th September 2005, Nepal issued Rs. 5 denomination note with the signature #16 of the new Governer Mr. Bijay Nath Bhattarai with minor changes in the text and change in the prefix no. font. Qty: 40 million pieces [Cha/74 000001 to Chha/16 999999]

Banknotes:: New Rs.10 Polymer note with New Governer Mr. Bijay Nath Bhattarai (signature# 16)

Numismatics On 14th September 2005, Nepal has issued Rs.10 denomination polymer note like #45 with a signature of new Governer Mr. Bijay Nath Bhattarai with the following changes: Changes: 1) Without the text "Commemorative issue on the occassion of the accession of King Gyanendra". 2) Instead of "Darker pigments" - "Orange front colour" in the left and right corners of the face. 3) Changes in the color - Green is the dominant color in both the front and back side from the previous brown. Other colors used are blue, pink and purple. 4) Change in the prefix no font. Qty: 50 million pieces [Nga/86 000001 to Cha/41 999999]

Banknotes:: Wolfgang Bertsch visit to Nepal

Numismatics The German Numismatic writer, Wolfgang Bertsch who has written two famous books A study of Tibetan Paper money with a critical Bibliography and The Currency of Tibet has visited Nepal Numismatic Society office in Kathmanu on 15th November 2003.

Besides these two books he has written many articles on Tibet Currency. About 35 NNS members were present on that occasion. In his brief note he threw light on the historical importance of Nepal coins being used in Tibet during Malla and Shah Dynasty.

Banknotes:: New Rs 5.00 Banknote out of circulation...

Numismatics The new Rs 5.00 banknote is out of circulation and on todays newspaper it is said that the British currency note printer M/s. De la rue has agreed to take back all faulty Rs 5.00 notes and will replace it with new ones. The new Rs 5.00 note will became scarce after some time. The Nepal Numismatic Society has advised its member to stock UNC of this as much they can.

Numismatics Rs. 10.00 denomination polymer currency note of Nepal issued on 30th September, 2002 with new King Gyanendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev wearing plumed crown picture on it. Nepal being the 21st nation to issue polymer currency so far.

Banknotes:: New Rs 5.00 Nepali Banknote is out of Circulation !

Numismatics The recently issued first Rs. 5.00 denomination paper currency note with new King Gyanendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev wearing plumed crown picture on it is no more in circulation. The government has stopped its circulation as the printer had supplied inferior quality of paper.
