On 19th September 2005, Nepal issued Rs. 5 denomination note with the signature #16 of the new Governer Mr. Bijay Nath Bhattarai with minor changes in the text and change in the prefix no. font.

On 14th September 2005, Nepal has issued Rs.10 denomination polymer note like #45 with a signature of new Governer Mr. Bijay Nath Bhattarai with the following changes:
Changes: 1) Without the text "Commemorative issue on the occassion of the accession of King Gyanendra".
2) Instead of "Darker pigments" - "Orange front colour" in the left and right corners of the face.
3) Changes in the color - Green is the dominant color in both the front and back side from the previous brown. Other colors used are blue, pink and purple.
4) Change in the prefix no font.

The German Numismatic writer, Wolfgang Bertsch who has written two famous books A study of Tibetan Paper money with a critical Bibliography and The Currency of Tibet has visited Nepal Numismatic Society office in Kathmanu on 15th November 2003.
Besides these two books he has written many articles on Tibet Currency. About 35 NNS members were present on that occasion. In his brief note he threw light on the historical importance of Nepal coins being used in Tibet during Malla and Shah Dynasty.

The new Rs 5.00 banknote is out of circulation and on todays newspaper it is said that the British currency note printer M/s. De la rue has agreed to take back all faulty Rs 5.00 notes and will replace it with new ones. The new Rs 5.00 note will became scarce after some time. The Nepal Numismatic Society has advised its member to stock UNC of this as much they can.

Rs. 10.00 denomination polymer currency note of Nepal issued on 30th September, 2002 with new King Gyanendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev wearing plumed crown picture on it. Nepal being the 21st nation to issue polymer currency so far.

The recently issued first Rs. 5.00 denomination paper currency note with new King Gyanendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev wearing plumed crown picture on it is no more in circulation. The government has stopped its circulation as the printer had supplied inferior quality of paper.
