Post subject: Commemorative silver coin - not in Krause  PostPosted: Sep 13, 2003 - 03:13 AM

This coin was on Ebay recently. It is not in the Standard Catalog of World Coins (not in my 2002 edition anyway). What does it commemorate and is it that scarce? It is the first time that I have seen it.

This coin was issued to commemorate Crown Prince Dipendra investiture (act of give possession) at the age of 18. It is a commemorative silver coin (not proof) and was issued w/o capsule, size 38.7mm, weight 31.1gr and minted 5000 only.

Thanks. It is the first time I have actually seen it. I found it interesting because it appears to have been struck in Kathmandu. Most of the commemoratives from Nepal are struck outside the country by now and I don't find them as interesting.

This coin and most of the commemorative as well as regular coins are struck in Nepal. only the proof coins are normally struck outside the country.  on May 29,2003 Newzealand has minted few Gold and silver proof coins for Nepal, which were issued to commemorate the Golgen Jubilee of the ascent of Mt.Everest.[addsig]

Where can I find the Mt. Everest Commemorative Coins? I believe they are 1983, 1993, and 2003

The coins that you mention are sometimes offered for sale on Ebay. But you may have to be a little patient as they have only been made in very limited numbers. Right now one of the coins you are searching for is offered for sale:

Keep watching the Ebay listings. I have seen all three coins offered for sale now and then and at some point they will be available again.
